Who's says things are only eventful on the pitch at Blackburn Rovers?
A little over a week after the season has finished and we've seen more drama coming via gossip/rumours/reports/general bullshitting/guess work from various "sources", "links" and "in the know people" based round secret antics in a small office in Pune, India.
The meetings that took place last week generated more interest than any tactical ploys or swift counter attacks ever did during the regular season as the outcome of these very talks go a long way to determining our immediate future as a club. They of course centre around apparent devil incarnate Steve Kean and his continued role as manager of Blackburn Rovers.
Despite his protests to the contrary, dear Steven's job is very much on the line and depending how hard and in which direction the axe falls (if at all) is a key determinant in a lot of things.
If Kean remains in any capacity then a chain of problems commence like a domino effect. Shirt sales will be low, season ticket renewals based on recent research would be fairly pitiful, fans would revolt, revenue coming into the club would hammer another nail into the rather hefty financial coffin, whatever trust left would again be lost in the owners and we'd start the season a division lower than last with little to no hope of heading back to the Premier League.
If Kean goes, well that would represent the first step back on a long road back to some sort of normality. Whatever normality is... it's easy to forget.
So with such a big decision you'd expect action to be decisive and well judged? Wouldn't you? You would, but then you forget who we are dealing with here, shame on you.
Even worse than that, the people with the emotional investment in Blackburn Rovers and the direction it takes are left none the wiser as to what is happening. We've been kept in the dark and not for the first time questions over the infrastructure at the club and who is really running the show are raised.
You see, the big calls are made in India whilst the directors and executives back in Blackburn hear next to nothing, the signals that are sent out are different depending on which part of the world you want to talk to and no-one apart from the top brass, those who arrogantly dismiss the concerns of others, knows the real answer.
No-one can ask the manager or the owners the questions that really need asking and there is no immediate focal point of who to ask when gossip emerges about the club, there hasn't been since November 2010.
Fans are left confused, bickering with each other and no-one has come forward to address the chaos that seems to envelop the club, in fact it is ignored and a smiley face expressing that everything is in fact fine, when it's not.
The fans can't talk to the club, the club doesn't want to talk properly to the fans and within the club the employees can't get straight answers from higher up the food chain.
All this whilst a man who has been largely responsible (be it directly or indirectly) for the mess and borderline useless in his PR role at Rovers over the last year or so gets promoted to a higher position in the Blackburn hierarchy on the strength of his communication skills. Better still, he is a staunch Kean ally. I would say "you couldn't make it up" but it's getting to the stage where you probably could and others would buy it.
See with men like Paul Agnew it is difficult to know whether he is just a bit slow out of the blocks and incompetent or it's that when the likes of journalists or members of the media ask him to clarify truth or fact with the activities of the club that he just doesn't know the real answer as Venky's won't tell him what's really going on - either way it's damning indicative of the circus that has become Blackburn Rovers.
We've been treated to the occasional "update" club statement on the official website which seem to exist only to show that someone at Rovers knows the type of language that middle managers use in the hope that someone will accept they know what they are doing, but ultimately once published they have generated more questions than they have answers.
Emails from fans are either not replied to in good time or given a copy and paste response, rumours are left as just that and whilst the fans of the football club were being attacked by all and sundry for being "idiots and relegating the club" we received absolutely no defence with the likes of the new Director of Communications being given ample chance and reason to do so. Nothing.
The bad news is set to continue at the club as the Agnew promotion more or less tells it's own tale. The route causes of all the heartache look set to to stay in influential positions at the club despite Venky's having a glorious chance to address the "cancer" that has enveloped one of England's most famous teams.
For everything that has gone wrong it would all just run a little smoother if we had a proper communication channel, a voice of reason and a spokesperson to facilitate liaison with fans and not treat us like a pack of untrained, unimportant sheep.
Instead we get this... the same old cr*p with different job titles for all. Thanks guys.

a excellent report speaks the truth ,states the truth...............well said
ReplyDeleteBig Sam in the Castle Gardens in Poulton le Fylde yesterday afternoon with Phil Brown. Clearly still loves the area and I bet could be convinced to come back under the right owners.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it is possible that the club is being run by a consortium with Venkys as the figureheads to satisfy the "fit and proper" test. The club was clearly undervalued by the Walker Trust (bearing in mind the equity in players plus tv money & parachute payments). Easy pickings for a bunch of greedy b@stards!
ReplyDeleteAnother great read, speak the truth and shame the devil.
ReplyDeleteIf Venky's sole advance since the season's end is to employ a director of communications as a priority it just shows how poor their judgement is. If they think Paul Agnew's "skill" in communication will deflect self-evident truths (Steve Kean is a very poor manager, all our best players have gone or are going, Venky's have underinvested etc) then they've got another thing coming. Deeds not words are what counts.
ReplyDeleteFans will judge Venky's on results only - and Venky's will find that in the championship it is results which are crucial if promotion is to be secured. We know from bitter experience (Don Mackay days anyone, when for three play-offs in a row we battled in our annual compaign against promotion).
Steve Kean will not deliver the results required - he's not even as good as Don Mackay. He cannot organise a defence to save his life and his tactical nouse is inconsistent and largely very poor. He and must be dismissed now to give his successor a chance of success.
However, depending on the sources you read, Kean may be kept on. The rumours in the Mail of Kean being kept on at his current salary would alarm any future manager - who would want to work with a man like Kean, especially when the recent You Tube video implied that his "squeaky clean" and "dignified" image are far from that. If I were a manager coming in I wouldn't want Steve Kean anywhere near me - or even in the building.
Venky's need to realise that this is a business and not a cosy group of friends. And Blackburn Rovers is a business which they through their own arrogance and stupidity have already pushed into a dangerous commercial place through their nonsensical support of a manager who has failed. Talk of giving him a "second chance", if this talk is true, shows how depraved Venky's are and why - if they choose to keep Kean - they will be deemed unworthy owners and continue to add to the droves of supporters who are deserting the club.
A new manager might help them to rebuild their damaged stock in the UK but something tells me that the situation is going to get worse rather than better. Kean must go. If Venky's go too then even better for the new season.
The goings on at BRFC,IS LIKE A MENTAL HOSPITAL WHERE ALL THE DOCTORS R MAD. The treatment that we the fans are getting is all the same lies ,untruths and deception.Ive come to terms not to attend any more games untill the fools are gone........ a sad Riversider arte et labore
ReplyDeletespot on section kean under sec 3 MHACT 1983
DeleteIf it ends up Kean in the background, then the Venkys have not done what needs to be done to satisfy the fans.
ReplyDeleteKean OUT! Not Kean under the table.
Totally agree!
DeleteI notice today that one of the Rao family has said everything is "in confusion" at the club. Despite the fact this doesn't bode well, it is the first honest thing we've heard from them in a long time. Kean out - absolutely!
Screw it.
ReplyDeleteIf they want to keep Kean they can pay for it. Starve the club of Money and Venkys will be loosing MILLIONS every month. Lets see how many millions Desai and Keans friendship is worth.
I was just thinking to myself the other day I have the perfect job for kean there would be no chance of him screwing it up and he could be very good at it seeing as I have poor sight especially at night he could be given the job of helping me out making my tea chopping up fresh vegetables which I am unable to do due to my sight he could be my general dogs body not too taxing and could probably do a good job he could be my volunteer/carer and would get no stick from any of us then we can get a proper manager in mind you I would probably have to have my wits about me he would probably put whiskey in my tea but I think on the whole that would be a good swap or as Venkys love him so much maybe they could employ him in India to make the tea for the clowns and clean out the chicken sheds he'd be more suited to that and we could get a proper football manager thoughts anyone?.
ReplyDeleteand so Venky's didn't see this coming? Rovers looked set for relegation from the opening game. Only Kean's ability to convince Venky's that his delusions were reality seems to have saved him. Given his appalling record, what possible reason could any owner have for even considering retaining him in any role, let alone manager?
ReplyDeleteNow Venky's sclerotic, penny pinching management fumble around delaying a decision whilst they debate amongst themselves. This is a PR nightmare for Venky's - bet they wish they could go back to being unknown in the UK. Venky's - either invest funds in the club and put effective local leadership in place or sell up. Any other course of action means the slide will continue.
Edit Reply
Venky's have no sense of football, they have looted the club and brought us down.Kean has shown no respect for the game, club and must go. Venky's get out! Kean out!
